Previous metals and prepping

Many preppers, especially those with the means invest in previous metals. Gold for the well off, Silver for the average and Copper for the less fortunate (that’s most of us nowadays). These, undoubtedly are a good hedge against inflation and copper shows all the signs of becoming the new silver with its scarcity and multitude of industrial uses. Depending on the scenario these may be a good investment when the dollar tanks (which is inevitable) and a new world currency is issued but I urge extreme caution for many reasons, a few of which I will briefly discuss and offer my solution at the end.

1. Storage and security. Precious metals need to be stored somewhere safe, strong and very very private. You and your spouse if you have one should be the ONLY ones that know where they are. In previous collapses around the world people have had their ring fingers cut off by looters for the gold.

2. You make yourself a big target. If you start bartering with silver or gold you WILL get noticed and you WILL attract a lot of attention. Basically you put a huge target on your back. You will be followed, stalked and looted if you aren’t prepared, perhaps even if you are. As I said in the last point, fingers have been cut off for rings, what do you think they’ll do for an ounce of more?

3. You can’t eat it (or make others, hint hint). Let’s face it, the only way you can eat silver is driving the colloidal version. For this alone some silver is recommended. Good and copper is another story.

4. It may or may not be accepted. People may not want to barter with metals. They may not be considered tangible by most.

My solutions? I suggest if you do invest in the previous previous metals that you do it sparingly. The following precious metals, however, are much more pertinent to the prepper and I suggest you invest yourself heavily in them. They will come in excruciatingly crucial in a true collapse.image

1. Brass cased copper jacketed lead (preferably of the hollow kind). I also suggest heavy diversification of calibers and also spare common magazines. Contrary to popular belief you CAN eat these and force others to do the same, you just don’t want to be the one eating. You can use it to defend yourself and loved ones. You can use it to put food on your table and it will have way more value than gold in a true collapse. Get it now while it’s cheap because after the collapse it’ll be harder to find than a “Big and Tall” store in Chinatown. Buy a box here and a box there. Get a wide variety of calibers concentrating on the ones your guns use but diversify into other very common calibers. Even very odd calibers can be disassembled and used for a fire starter among other things. Some good calibers to buy up are:

Pistol & Revolver: 9mm, 45acp, 40, 22, 380, 38, 357, 44, etc…

Rifle: 223/556, 30-06, 7mm, 22lr/mag, 308, etc…

Shotgun: 12ga buckshot and slug

2. Cold, hard, sharp steel. If you can’t get ammunition for defense, hunting and barter the next best thing is edged weapons and/or tools. Knives can be used for limited, close quarters defense, quiet sentry elimination, cutting, whittling wooden tools, scraping ferocellium rods, etc…..

So should a prepper invest in precious metals? Hell ya! It’s just which ones. The “non-typical” variety are in my opinion not only the easiest to acquire but the most valuable post-collapse.

Don’t forget to Like, Share, Comment and Subscribe. Share the love and keep on prepping.
